We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with JavaScript/Node.js expertise to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.

You'll join a multi-disciplinary agile team, solving complex problems and delivering technology that makes a real difference to users.

You'll build and run scalable applications used by millions of people, applying strong design principles and championing best practices such as TDD, and ensuring robust, resilient, and reliable systems.

Alongside hands-on delivery, you'll mentor and support other engineers, foster a collaborative team culture, and provide clear technical leadership, all while working within a vibrant engineering community that supports your ongoing development and growth.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need? 

• Expert knowledge and extensive experience of modern JavaScript/Node.js technologies, frameworks and design principles. Capable of leading the production of software solutions of the highest quality.

• Extensive experience of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) practices and techniques.

• Detailed working knowledge and experience of APIs, RESTful services and Microservice Architectures.

• Expert knowledge and extensive experience of developing on cloud-based environments like AWS and Azure.

• Strong working knowledge and practical experience of SQL and NoSQL database applications such as Postgres, MySQL and MongoDB.

• Extensive experience and proven track record with the skills required to build up a useful, robust automated test suite to support a continuous deployment environment.

• You know how to lead and influence multidisciplinary engineering teams - communicating with stakeholders, driving delivery, ensuring standards, ways of working and building supportive and collaborative culture.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.  

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £80,664.

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of 28.97%, worth up to £19,759

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time.  

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
