Salary: £44,447 to £46,547 Annually

We are looking for a Content Designer to join is and create clear, accessible and user-centred content that will help people interact with government services.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Have substantial experience of creating accessible and plain English content, following content processes, and applying patterns and style guidelines. 
  • Have used quantitative and qualitative data to make content decisions.
  • Have used different ways of showing, explaining and testing your content. 
  • Have engaged in a community of practice, including reviewing other people's content and getting your own content reviewed.  
  • Have collaborated with people in other disciplines. 
  • Have advocated for user-centred, evidence-based content with your stakeholders. 
  • Can explain how the work you do helps your organisation achieve the right outcomes. 

You and your role  

Our Content Designers work as part of multi-disciplinary teams to design, develop and improve content across the end-to-end user journey, making sure information and DWP services are easy to understand and use.

Using evidence from user research, analytics and stakeholder engagement, you will create content for a range of channels and touchpoints. These include GOV.UK pages, digital services, application forms, emails, letters, navigation and in-service messaging.

You design content that meets user needs and drives efficient interactions, while adhering to GOV.UK and DWP content standards, style guides and design systems.

You will work closely with colleagues from a range of disciplines and engage with stakeholders to develop, test and refine content, using evidence to explain and support design decisions.

You will also be part of a thriving Content Design and User-Centred Design community, with opportunities to collaborate, share best practice and learn from experienced practitioners across DWP and government.

Through regular peer reviews, community events and professional development opportunities, you will be supported to grow your skills and your career, broaden your expertise, and shape the future of content design in public services.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield. whichever is most convenient for you.  

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home (40%) and some time collaborating face to face in a hub (60%).

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £46,547.

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of 28.97%.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time.  

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
