Data Governance Lead

Waterside, British Airways Head Office, London Full Time

A career without limits

As the nation's flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.

It's something we've been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world's first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

This originality has been in our blood since day one. It's the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.

So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.

We know great things can happen when you're inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways the sky is never the limit.

The role: Data Governance Lead

Data has the power to transform every customer journey and this role is at the heart of making that happen. As our Data Governance Lead, you'll help shape how customer data is managed, protected and used across British Airways.

You'll collaborate with teams spanning CRM, Technology, Cyber Security, Legal and Privacy, helping us unlock the value of data while keeping our customers' trust at the centre of everything we do. Ready to influence how one of the world's most recognised airlines manages its customer data? This could be the opportunity for you!

What you'll do:
  • Lead Data Governance activities across customer data domains.
  • Define, implement and continuously improve data governance policies, standards and processes.
  • Partner with Data Governance leads across British Airways to drive a consistent enterprise-wide approach.
  • Champion data quality, compliance, security and ethical use of customer information.
  • Support key governance initiatives across areas such as AI, GenAI and data sharing.
  • Define customer data policies and help ensure alignment with privacy regulations and business objectives.
  • Establish and maintain data classification, security and compliance standards.
  • Drive improvements in customer data quality, accuracy and consistency.
  • Ensure customer data definitions and standards are applied consistently across business processes.
  • Protect CRM data quality and consent accuracy.
  • Support data subject rights requests and customer privacy activities in partnership with the Data Protection team.
  • Provide strategic oversight of customer data, helping teams better understand, manage and govern it.

What you'll bring to British Airways:

You're someone who sees the bigger picture but never loses sight of the detail. You enjoy bringing people together, influencing decisions and helping teams navigate complex challenges. You'll be comfortable translating technical concepts into language everyone can understand and confident building strong relationships across a wide range of stakeholders. Curious about the future of data, technology and AI? So are we! We're looking for someone who can combine strategic thinking with a practical, customer-focused approach and a passion for doing what's right.

Your experience:
  • Strong experience working with GDPR and broader privacy frameworks.
  • Ability to explain technical controls and data concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience leading or supporting Data Governance activities within a large organisation is desirable.
  • Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) and/or Customer Data Platforms (CDP) is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to work across multiple teams and influence a broad stakeholder network.
  • Experience developing or embedding governance, quality or compliance frameworks for data.

What we offer:

We believe that all the people who work with us should feel valued for the part they play. It's one of the reasons our rewards go far beyond a competitive salary.

From the day you join us, you'll get access to brilliant staff travel benefits including unlimited basic and premium standby tickets on British Airways flights. You'll also receive up to 30 discounted 'Hotline' airfares per year for yourself, friends, and family.

At British Airways you'll have the chance to take on new challenges and move forward in a way that feels right for you. We encourage all those who work for us to consider opportunities right across our business to help you develop and progress.

We never stand still, and we don't expect our people to either.
