Senior Software Engineer
Position Description
Join CGI as a Senior Software Engineer and help shape, strengthen and evolve critical digital services that clients rely on every day. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of complex technical challenges, turn insight into lasting improvements and deliver enhancements that increase reliability, resilience and performance. Working alongside experienced engineering, platform, QA and client teams, you'll have the freedom to bring forward new ideas while being supported by a collaborative community of experts. This is an opportunity to combine hands-on engineering with meaningful service improvement, helping CGI deliver secure, high-value digital solutions while developing your expertise across modern applications and cloud technologies.
CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK 'Best Employer' by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you'll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We'll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.
Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position.
Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will provide senior engineering expertise across a portfolio of critical digital services, taking ownership of complex live-service challenges from investigation through to permanent resolution. You'll design and deliver application enhancements, resolve defects and help ensure services remain secure, reliable, resilient and maintainable.
Working collaboratively with project delivery, platform engineering, QA and client stakeholders, you'll have scope to introduce new ideas, improve engineering practices and reduce technical debt. You'll also support and mentor colleagues, sharing your expertise while benefiting from the knowledge and support of CGI's wider technical community.
• Lead & Resolve: Investigate complex production incidents, perform root cause analysis and implement lasting corrective actions.
• Develop & Deliver: Design, build, test and deploy application enhancements and defect fixes across .NET, Angular and AWS environments.
• Optimise & Improve: Enhance application performance, security, reliability and resilience while identifying opportunities to reduce technical debt.
• Automate & Enhance: Improve CI/CD, deployment processes, monitoring, alerting and observability to increase operational efficiency.
• Support & Collaborate: Contribute to releases, deployments, environment management and operational readiness alongside multidisciplinary teams.
• Share & Mentor: Develop technical documentation and runbooks, share knowledge and provide technical guidance to colleagues.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
You'll bring significant senior software engineering experience, ideally gained within a live-service, support or maintenance environment. You'll combine strong .NET and cloud engineering expertise with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues across applications, infrastructure and integrations. Strong communication and problem-solving skills will enable you to work effectively with both technical teams and stakeholders.
• Extensive experience developing and supporting enterprise web applications in live or production environments.
• Strong proficiency in .NET application and API development.
• Strong experience with AWS and cloud-hosted applications and services.
• Experience with Angular or comparable modern front-end technologies.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL and data modelling.

• Knowledge of monitoring, logging and observability tooling.
• Experience working within Agile delivery teams and familiarity with Jira or similar tooling.
• Strong understanding of security, performance, reliability and resilience practices for cloud-hosted applications.
• Effective stakeholder communication and collaborative problem-solving skills.
